Alumnus Selected to Fill Open Seat on LTHS School Board

La Grange resident Thomas W. Cushing has been selected to serve on Lyons Township High School's Board of Education. Cushing will serve the remainder William Purcell's term through April 2013. Purcell passed away last month.

Board of Education has selected Thomas W. Cushing, a La Grange resident and LT alumni, to fill a vacancy left on the board after the death of William Purcell last month.

“The Board of Education is very excited to have [Cushing] join us," Board President Mark Pera said in an email. "He is passionate about kids and education, and we have no doubt that he will have a very positive impact upon LT."

Cushing is a 1980 graduate of LT who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a JD degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame. The Board cited Cushing's extensive community service as a reason for their selection. Cushing has served on the St. Francis Xavier Parish Council and as its chairman. He also served on the St. Francis Xavier School Board and as the board's president for one term.

Cushing is a longtime La Grange resident. He and his wife, Jamie, have four boys, including one who is a freshman at LT this year.

“Bill Purcell was my friend and a man of integrity who provided dedicated service to LT and this community," Cushing said. "I feel extremely honored to have been selected to be a member of the LTHS Board of Education to complete Bill’s term. As a former student, I have a deep attachment and affinity for LT. I hope that my broad professional and civic experiences prove helpful to LT and the overall community in a meaningful way."
