A German lesson like no other

Lyons Township High School German teacher Karen McCann brings a bit of Germany into the classroom and teaches her Level III and IV students to Polka and Waltz every year. These dances are very common in Germany and the majority of Germans can dance them or at least have been exposed to them. Germans often host fests and that’s usually the place where there’s an opportunity to dance them. She says, “Since it is such an integral part of German culture, I see it as my job to expose my students to these dances. It has become something the students look forward to all year and anticipation is building even in the lower levels.”
