La Grange Residents: Choose the 100% Renewable Energy Option!

La Grange residents can use the municipal electricity aggregation program to support cleaner sources of electricity

Recently La Grange residents received a notice that they will be automatically enrolled in a new electricity aggregation program which provides a reduced rate for electricity.  All residents, unless they already receive electricity from another Alternate Retail Electric Supplier (ARES) or choose to opt-out, will enter the program.

As part of the electricity aggregation program, residents can choose to support electricity sources that are cleaner than the traditional sources of coal-fired and nuclear power plants.  By paying .03 cents per kilowatt hour more (4.899 as opposed to 4.869), La Grange residents can support the development of wind power in the Midwest.  That’s about 10-25 cents per month for my family of four, which lives in an average-sized home in La Grange.  More local wind power means more jobs and cleaner air, land, and water in our region.  Because wind power has less environmental risks and lower operational costs, once established, wind farms also lead to lower electricity prices.

Residents who want to reduce pollution and support cleaner energy should look for the heading 100% Renewable Energy Option on their letter from the Village of La Grange.  The instructions refer you to the link below.  It is simple to enroll--it only took me a couple of minutes--so do it before the opt-out deadline of May 17, 2013.
