Tri-State Tollway Southbound Exit to Westbound 1-290 to Close This Weekend for Bridge Work

Detour to direct traffic to Mannheim Road through July 30.

This is a press release from the Illinois Tollway.

The ramp carrying traffic from the southbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) to westbound I-290 in Elmhurst is scheduled to close this weekend and traffic detoured to complete bridge repairs on the ramp.

The ramp closure is scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, July 27, until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 30.

The detour will route traffic south on I-294 and then east on I-290, where drivers will be directed to exit at Mannheim Road north, then re-enter via the westbound I-290 entrance ramp.

Ramp repairs include full-depth concrete pavement patching, bridge joint repairs and extending the median wall. A full closure is necessary to complete repairs because the bridge is not wide enough to accommodate a work zone while maintaining traffic. The Illinois Tollway is scheduling the closure over the weekend to minimize the impact to commuter traffic. On an average Saturday or Sunday, about 7,000 vehicles use this ramp.

The work is being completed as part of the $112.6 million Central Tri-State Tollway Resurfacing Project to extend the life of the roadway and provide a new, smooth surface.
