Ongoing Burr Ridge Tree Study to Precede 'EAB Management Plan'

The village of Burr Ridge is funding the consultant's study in large part through grant money.

Editor's note: The following release was sent to Patch by Burr Ridge village officials. Director of public works Paul May said Tuesday that the study is ongoing and set to be completed by the end of next week. "The consultant will spend the rest of December assembling the data," May said in an email, "and the village expects to receive a report by the end of January 2013."

Beginning Wednesday October 31, 2012, consultants working for the village of Burr Ridge will be conducting a Geographic Information System (GIS) based inventory of all parkway trees. As part of a grant funded project, employees from Natural Path Urban Forestry Consultants will identify and assess the condition of village trees to establish an emerald ash borer (EAB) management plan.

This EAB Management plan will allow the village to more efficiently manage its EAB treatment program and to plan for removal and reforestation efforts. The inventory will also provide the village with the information needed to sustain an ecologically diverse and economically sound urban forest.

This work is being funded, in large part, through a $20,000 technical assistance grant received from U.S. Forest Service, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, and the Morton Arboretum.

Immediate questions may be directed to Gary Gatlin, Burr Ridge forestry and grounds division, at 630-323-4733 ext. 6040.

Great idea. Will there be a preventive program developed to preserve the existing ash population?

Not sure, Chuck. Thanks for the question. I'll keep it in mind as the study wraps up.
