Lipinski Wins Huge in Primary Over Baqai

With nearly 90 percent of the vote, incumbent Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Western Springs) has easily cruised by challenger Farah Baqai.

Incumbent Democratic 3rd District Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Western Springs) easily won the Democratic nomination to run for his fifth term in Congress on Tuesday, defeating challenger Farah Baqai by a vote margin of nearly 9-1.

Faqai was challenging the moderate Lipinski from the left, but stood virtually no chance against a Lipinski name that is a perennial force in Cook County Democratic politics.

“Tomorrow we go back to work—the work never ends,” Lipinski told supporters in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge. “I’m working to make sure that people who do bring a hard day’s work [and] who play by the rules get rewarded. That’s the most important thing. That’s what I stand for, and that’s why today we’ve come through with a big victory with your help.”
