La Grange Park Thanks Departing Youth Commissioners

Four departing youth commissioners for the Village of La Grange Park received a thank you from staff at a recent board of trustees meeting.

Prior to the start of the La Grange Park board of trustees meeting on Tuesday, June 28, Village President Jim Discipio took some time to thank a few departing members of the Village's Youth Commission.

Grant Lundahl and Abby Gies were both presented certificates from the village president thanking them for their service to the village.

"A lot of times the board is looking to them [for their opinion]," Discipio said at the presentation.

Both students are off to college next year. Lundahl said he was going to attend Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and would likely study Political Science or Biology, he said.

"I look forward to maybe one day serving on this board of trustees," Lundahl told the board.

Gies said her plans were to attend St. Mary's College in Minnesota to study Public Relations.

"It's been really fun," Gies said. "We have had a lot of insight into how the community works. Thank you for the opportunity."

Two other youth commissioners were unable to attend the meeting. Grace Slaherty and Margaret Brewick will also receive a certificate of thanks from the village.

The Youth Commission is made up of 10 youths from the community who review the agenda each Monday night prior to the board meeting. The team discusses and then gives the board their insight on the agenda items.

"These folks put a lot of effort into it," said Julia Cedillo, interim village manager. "What they do is just fantastic."
