La Grange Park Seeking New Village Treasurer

The Village of La Grange Park is looking for an individual with a strong financial background to help the village.

is currently seeking a new village treasurer to fill the position of current Village Treasurer Richard Zeiler, who will be retiring before the end of the current term on April 30, 2012. Although the appointed term for treasure in La Grange Park is on a year-by-year basis, the candidate for the position will serve the rest of Zeiler's term as well as the next term beginning May 1, 2012  and continuing through April 30, 2013.

The part-time position nets a salary of $402.88 every other week, or $10,475 annually. The position will require the treasurer to be available for evening Village Board meetings twice a month, as well as four quarterly Police Pension Board meetings.

According to information posted on the Village of La Grange Park website, the treasurer's roles also include the following:

  • Assist in the verification of accounts payable and payroll.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of the Village’s investments.
  • Determine that official records, books and accounts as may be required by statute or ordinance are maintained.
  • Assist in the verification and oversight of the Police Pension Board investment portfolio.
  • Assist in the oversight of beneficiary benefit payments related to the Police Pension fund.
  • Provide input to the Village President and the Board of Trustees on matters of financial importance.

A strong background in accounting and investments is required with past audit experience being especially desirable. Strong oral and written communication skills are also desirable, since the position requires communication with board members, village staff and the public.
