La Grange Park Moves Forward with Commercial Revitalization Committee

La Grange Park Trustee LaVelle Topps gave an update on the committee's plans and activities at an Oct. 11 board workshop.

Residents and Village Board members got an update on the village's Commercial Revitalization Committee at a recent Oct. 11 work session meeting. Trustee LaVelle Topps provided the board with a review of the committee progress thus far and outlined its plans for the future.

At the committee's August meeting, members developed an introductory letter to local businesses that LaVelle said he hopes will encourage participation from more local businesses in La Grange Park.

At the committee's September meeting, members laid out a living draft document to plan and record ideas generated from the group's meetings.

"I've been very excited," Topps told fellow board members on Oct. 11. "We've had some very, very good meetings."

Some of the ideas that the committee has outlined so far in its strategy are:

  • For village board and staff members to engage in upcoming ribbon cutting events.
  • Check in on local businesses following emergency events.
  • To use the Village's E-Briefs to highlight the work of local businesses.
  • To collect data on La Grange Park's top 10 employers.
  • Continue to encourage residents to shop locally.

The committee's goals as outlined at their meeting in September put particular focus on business retention in La Grange Park and business attraction to the community.
