La Grange Park Board Approves Cool Village Plan

A plan from the Cool Village Commission calls for 2 percent annual reduction in greenhouse gases in La Grange Park.

The Cool Village Commission again presented their plan to board members which calls for a 2 percent reduction in the village's output of green house gasses.

Krista Grimm, chairperson of the commission, led a presentation to the board that showed the Village's highest areas of C02E (a measure of greenhouse gas equivalents).

"[The Village of La Grange Park] has a decades long history of being environmentally responsible," Grimm said in her opening statement. Grim said the Cool Village Commission's intention was to continue that tradition by suggesting ways in which the Village could cut back on its emission of greenhouse gases and become more sustainable.

The plan does not yet call for any one method to reduce the village's greenhouse gas output, but the commission has investigated a number of possible ways to meet a "realistic, but difficult," 2 percent annual reduction.

Ideas include installing a green roof on Village Hall and holding regular e-waste recycling days where residents can safely dispose of old cell phone, computers and other electronic waste.
