FirstEnergy Contract to Save Residents 19.6% on Electric Bills

La Grange residents and small business owners will pay 4.86 cents per kilowatt-hour starting June 1 if they opt in to the program.

The village of La Grange signed a one-year electrical supply contract with FirstEnergy for a rate of 4.86 cents per kilowatt-hour starting June 1, according to a news release sent out Wednesday.

The rate is a 19.6 percent savings on ComEd’s rate, which is 6.05 cents per kilowatt-hour.

ComEd’s rate is scheduled to drop to 6.01 cents in October, at which point the savings will shrink slightly to 19.1 percent.

What you need to do now:

  • If you want to take part in the electrical aggregation program, you don’t have to do anything. FirstEnergy will automatically opt you in. Your bill will continue to come from ComEd, even though they are no longer the supplier.
  • There is a 100 percent renewable energy option that costs 4.899 cents per kilowatt-hour. Most of that electricity will come from Midwest wind farms. Visit www.fes.com/lagrange or call 1-866-636-3749 to enroll in the 100 percent renewable energy program. (Note that the default FirstEnergy program includes 18 percent renewable energy.)
  • If you don’t want any part of electrical aggregation, you have 21 days to opt out. Submit the opt-out form, available on the village’s website, by May 17. The form will also be sent to residents and business owners in the mail.
  • You will soon receive a letter explaining the program and the various options. Those who do not opt out will receive a second letter after May 17 confirming the June 1 switch to FirstEnergy.
  • No one will be going door-to-door or calling residents in connection with this program.
  • If you have any questions, call FirstEnergy at 1-866-636-3749 or the village at 708-579-2315. You may also visit FirstEnergy’s website at www.fes.com/LaGrange.
