Don't Forget that Sprinkling Restrictions are in Effect

La Grange and La Grange Park restrict when lawns can be sprinkled to help conserve water. Make sure you're watering on the correct day.

With the extreme heat last week I noticed quite a few people watering their lawns. I have a couple of areas on my lawn that don’t receive any shade, and in the blink of an eye they became patches of straw. Both La Grange and La Grange Park have sprinkling restrictions for their residents.

Last week I noticed a lot of people were watering on days that were not their designated days. Here’s a reminder from each of the villages outlining their sprinkling restrictions taken from the La Grange web site and the La Grange Park web site.

“Due to the extreme heat and dry conditions, the Village would like to remind residents of the Village’s regulations regarding watering your lawn. Residents are allowed to water their lawn according to the following schedule:

  •  Even-numbered addresses—Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
  •  Odd-numbered addresses—Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
  •  No watering is permitted on Mondays

The purpose of these regulations is to manage the available water supply to guarantee that water is available for emergencies and regular indoor household use. While the Village’s water system is currently operating normally, we request your assistance in adhering to the above regulations based on the anticipated forecast of continued dry weather.

La Grange Park Sprinkling Restrictions:

“Water restrictions are in effect in La Grange Park from May 15 through Sep. 15. During these months when water usage is at its highest, residents should limit outdoor water usage to an odd-even watering schedule. Residents with an odd-numbered address may water on odd-numbered calendar days, and residents with an even-numbered address may water on even-numbered calendar days. The water restrictions apply to lawn watering or sprinkling and washing cars.

During times when the water supply is particularly strained, the Village Manager may order the temporary cessation of lawn sprinkling, vehicle washing, and other nonessential water uses. The Village will notify residents when this temporary ban has been enacted and subsequently lifted.”
