Woman Scammed Sending $2,000 to 'Family Member' in Madrid

Here is a list of items taken from the La Grange police blotter.

A La Grange woman reported Aug. 5 that she was scammed of $2,000 she sent by Western Union to Madrid, Spain, where someone called from claiming to be a family member needing the money. The woman later contacted the family members, who was not in Spain, according to police investigator Ken Uher.

Two thefts under investigation

La Grange police are investigating an incident reported Aug. 5 in which a La Grange woman said her son stole her laptop and pawned it. No arrest had been made as of noon Aug. 8, police said.

Police also are looking into a report Aug. 7 by a woman living in the 300 block of west Harris Avenue who said she returned from eight days away and found her Toyota was missing.

Woman falls in parking garage

A 52-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 4:52 p.m. Aug. 5 after she fell and possibly broke her ankle on the second floor of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave. Her hometown was not listed.

Wallet stolen

A Western Springs woman told La Grange police Aug. 6 that her wallet was stolen while she was at The Grapevine, 9 W. Hillgrove Ave., on Aug. 5.  The loss was less than $30.

Water main break

A possible water main break at 52nd Street and Stone Avenue was reported to Public Works at about 5:52 a.m. Aug. 6.

Egging suspects

La Grange police warned four 16-year-olds from Hinsdale who threw eggs at someone walking at Eighth Avenue and Cossitt Avenue at about 9:36 p.m. Aug. 6.

Curfew violation

Two boys, ages 15 and 16, from La Grange Park and a 15-year-old boy from Countryside were turned over to their parents after La Grange police said they found them out after curfew at 11:59 p.m. Aug. 5 at 48th Street and LaGrange Road.

Bike found

A black and red Diamondback bicycle found in the parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., was turned over to La Grange police Aug. 6.

Reckless driver reported

A black Charger was reported driving recklessly while eastbound on Ogden Avenue from Willow Springs Road at about 4:47 a.m. Aug. 6. La Grange police could not locate the vehicle.

Driver’s license missing

A man walked into the La Grange police station at about 10:16 a.m. Aug. 7 to report he lost his driver’s license. His hometown was not listed.
