Woman, 72, Falls on Sidewalk at Village Hall, Possibly Breaks Arm

Bird bath base stolen at La Grange home included in police blotter items.

A 72-year-old Western Springs woman was brought to Hinsdale Hospital at about 6:55 p.m. Feb. 25 after La Grange police said she fell on the sidewalk in front of La Grange Village Hall, 53 S. LaGrange Road, and possibly broke her arm. The village also was notified of the accident.

The base of a bird bath, worth less than $300, was reported stolen at about 1:28 p.m. Feb. 25 at a home in the 600 block of Catherine Avenue.  

The La Grange Fire Department went at about 7:03 p.m. Feb. 25 to a home in the 700 block of south Seventh Avenue where cheese drippings were on fire in the bottom of an oven, but flames were out before they arrived. The Fire Department also provided mutual aid for a fire call in the 9400 block of 55th Street in McCook at about 10:02 p.m. Feb. 27 and the smell of smoke in the basement of home in the 1400 block of Deerpath Lane in La Grange Park.

A La Grange father told police that his son saw a suspicious dark van driven by a woman with short hair circling around Elm Park, Elm Avenue and LaGrange Road, and the vehicle was following him home at about 12:59 p.m. Feb. 27.  

A caller reported hearing fireworks on 52nd Street near Catherine or Ashland avenues at about 10:10 p.m. Feb. 26 but an officer found nothing.

Six or seven kids were reported running in and out of driveways in the 100 block of north Stone Avenue at about 8:56 p.m. Feb. 25, but were seen going to McDonald’s.

Skateboarders were reported at about 9:14 p.m. Feb. 25 on the third floor of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., and jumping down to the second floor.  An officer sent six or seven kids on their way.
