Every Burglar's Bane: Great Dane Beyond the Pane

ELMHURST, May 25—A resident of the 300 block of West Alexander Boulevard told police a man between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4-inches tall, with medium-length blond hair, wearing jeans, a blue T-shirt and carrying a black backpack, tried to open her rear, sliding-glass door at 12:02 p.m. He stopped when the resident’s Great Dane charged at him. He was only able to push the door open 6 inches due to a bar set in place.

LA GRANGE, May 24—Two women were reported to be blocking cars from passing while they were dancing in the street at 51st Street and Madison Avenue at about 5:21 p.m. A police officer talked to the two about playing in the street and sent them on their way.

LA GRANGE, May 23—A man called La Grange police at about 7:46 a.m. to report a Pace bus had crossed the Burlington Northern railroad tracks at Ashland Avenue 14 minutes earlier, when the crossing lights were flashing and a train was coming. Police contacted Pace and said they will follow up.

Havana Sleepover, without the Sleep

ELMHURST, May 22—Two teenage boys were seen by York High School security at 3:46 a.m. at Elm Park Avenue and Grace Street. When police approached, they ran into a nearby yard. They told police they were having a sleepover and decided to take a walk and smoke cigars. They were released to their parents and referred to Peer Jury.

If This is a Parking Plot, It's Got Some Big Speed Bumps

BATAVIA, May 21—A 26-year-old Elgin man faces multiple charges after ending up behind the wheel in a Batavia cemetery.Kevin A. Malone, 1660 Mark Ave., was arrested after losing control of his vehicle, entering the West Batavia Cemetery and striking seven headstones. He was charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving without a valid driver’s license and reckless driving. He was released on $200 bond and is due to appear in court on July 5.

Bigger Stone Needed to Seal Off Man Cave?

GENEVA, May 14—Someone took about 24 bottles of beer and a pack of cigarettes from the garage of a home in the 700 block of McKinley Avenue sometime between 6 p.m. May 14 and 12:45 a.m. May 15. The owner told police the items were taken from a refrigerator in his detached garage.

Trail of a Turf Terminator

GENEVA, May 9—A resident in the 1700 block of Allen Drive told police someone threw something on his lawn that killed about a 3-by-5-foot section of grass. The resident old police that “he has been having this problem for the past three years,” according to a report.  The estimated cost to replace the grass is $5. The incident occurred between 8 a.m. May 9 and noon May 10, reports said.
