Three Wallets Stolen Inside La Grange Restaurants

Burglaries among La Grange police blotter items.

Three customers of La Grange restaurants reported their wallets had been stolen between May 4 and 6. In all incidents, the loss was less than $300.

A wallet was stolen out of a woman’s purse at about 3:10 p.m. May 6 at the Corner Bakery, 39 N. LaGrange Road. A Westchester woman also reported at 9:08 p.m. May 4 that her blue trifold wallet was stolen out of her purse at Corner Bakery.

Employees of Palmer Place, 56 S. LaGrange Road, told La Grange police at about 7:15 p.m. May 6 that a customer’s wallet had been stolen.

Actual, possible break-ins

A computer was stolen out of a home in the 0-100 block of Bluff Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 3:21 p.m. May 4. The value was more than $300.

A woman living on the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue found a broken window in her basement at about 11:21 a.m. May 6 and told La Grange police someone tried to break in and might have been successful.

Series of complaints at building

A tenant on the 300 block of Bluff Avenue reported at about 1:39 a.m. May 9 she believes other building residents kicked in her door and destroyed her apartment in an ongoing issue with people in another apartment. On May 6, she reported someone stole $100 from inside the apartment, but she is not sure who did it. La Grange police also responded three times on May 8 to her building, At 1:12 a.m., the victim was told to keep down the noise. At 1:34 a.m., another resident said people were making noise and at 3:28 a.m., the victim was cited for loud noise. Police also responded to loud noise from a car in the parking lot at about 4:04 a.m. May 9.  

Man yells at speeding cars

La Grange police think a complaint of a man yelling at passing cars May 8 may be related to an earlier call of cars speeding by to avoid railroad tracks on 47th Street. A man called police at about 12:31 p.m. to report cars speeding north on Ninth Avenue from 47th Street to avoid a stopped train. The caller said a car almost hit him. Police say “no through traffic” signs are posted. And at 1:09 p.m., police learned a man was on Elm Avenue between Ninth and 10th avenues yelling at motorists passing by and writing down license plate numbers. The man was gone when police arrived.

Suspicious car gone

North Riverside police reported a car heading toward the 800 block of Hillgrove Avenue from LaGrange Road at about 12:05 a.m. May 8 with passengers who possibly were smoking marijuana. La Grange police could not find the car.  

Church window broken

A window was broken at La Grange Bible Church, 850 S. Seventh Ave., La Grange police learned at about 9:14 a.m. May 5.

Ambulance calls at churches

Brought May 7 to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital by La Grange Fire Department ambulances were an 84-year-old man who fell at First Congregational Church, 100 S. Sixth Ave., at about 12:41 p.m., and a man with a heart problem who was weak and not feeling well at St. Frances Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Ave., at about 12:52 p.m.

Dog, debit card found

A Lockport woman’s debit card was found at about 4:33 p.m. May 7 on the 500 block of south Kensington Avenues and returned to her.

A Brookfield woman said she found a small tan and white dog with pointy ears at Seventh and Cossitt avenues May 6 and told La Grange police she would hold onto it for now. The dog had a collar but no tags.   

Skateboarders too loud

A police officer said he warned loud skateboarders at Spring and Burlington avenues, but when he had to go back a second time at about 8:08 p.m. May 7, he sent them on their way.

Men with alcohol sent away

La Grange police took the names and sent away a 42-year-old Riverside man and 43-year-old La Grange man seen with open alcohol behind a restaurant at 88 S. LaGrange Road at about 11:32 a.m. May 7.

Truck drops furniture on road

La Grange police received multiple calls at about 4:47 p.m. May 6 of pieces of furniture that fell out of a red pickup truck on 47th Street between Seventh and Ninth avenues. The truck was last seen going north on Bluff Avenue from 47th Street. The furniture was placed on the parkway to be picked up by Public Works

Suspicious man in park

A man in his 30s who was drinking something out of a small coffee mug and watching children at Sedgwick Park, 47th Street and Bluff Avenue, was reported at about 7:05 p.m. May 4 to La Grange police. He was described as weighing about 250 pounds with a goatee. The caller said he had had left about 1-1/2 hours ago in a red pickup truck.
