Three Thefts Reported at La Grange Businesses, Park

'Rude' Tennesee man comes to door wanting money to go to Italy.

An unidentified amount of money, believed to be less than $300, was stolen out of the cash register of a restaurant in the 0-100 block of south LaGrange Road, La Grange police learned at about 5:43 p.m. May 8.

Four bottles of Xanax each containing 30 pills were reported May 9 as stolen out of medical offices in the 5200 block of Willow Springs Road, according to La Grange police.

A La Grange woman told police May 9 that her daughter’s bicycle was stolen about three weeks previously out of Elm Park. The bicycle was a girl’s light purple Trek mountain bike model.

Suspicious character

A 19-year-old man from Chattanooga, Tenn., was arrested May 9 after allegedly acting suspiciously while walking down the 800 block of south Catherine at about 5:11 p.m.

La Grange police received a call of a man wearing a maroon shirt and khaki pants who told a passerby he was looking for was a lost dog. Asked for information about the dog, he declined to say anything about the pet or himself.

A second caller told police a man, abut 5-foot-2, wearing a red shirt and tan pants came to her door with a rude attitude asking for money to go to Italy. He left but police found a man matching his description at 51st Street and Brainard Avenue. The man was charged under a local ordinance but no information was available from police on which one.

Funny activity

A La Grange man reported May 9 he was getting suspicious activity on his email account and suspicious responses from his Craigslist account. Police gave him paperwork for identity theft.

Substation fire

A transformer blew behind the 100 block of south Eighth Ave. and a ComEd substation caught fire, La Grange police learned at about 7:55 p.m. May 10. The Fire Department responded and ComEd was notified.

Kids being kids

La Grange police were called at about 4:39 p.m. May 9 about a group of youths playing street hockey on tennis courts at Spring Avenue School, 1001 S. Spring Ave., and concern the surface could be damaged.  Police sent away the kids.

A La Grange mother told police May 9 that another 10-year-old boy hit her 10-year-old on the 200 block of Sawyer Avenue.

Public urination

A La Grange police officer could not find a man, possibly an AT&T worker, whom he was told was urinating in an alley behind the 0-100 block of Sawyer Avenue at about 8:09 a.m. May 9.  

Lost and found

A binder belonging to a Chicago woman was found at the Stone Avenue train station of the Burlington Northern Railroad and turned in to La Grange police May 10.  Police contacted the owner.

A black Kenneth Cole trifold wallet containing credit cards, a driver’s license, cards and $3 was found at the La Grange Road train station and turned in to La Grange police May 10. The owner, a LaGrange man, was contacted by police.

La Grange police were called May 9 to pick up weapons and ammunition from a resident’s home to destroy it.

A LaGrange man reported May 9 that he lost his driver’s license at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital.
