Stolen Car Chased to Maywood

Mohammad T. Alkaramla, 27, of 6029 N. Artesian Ave., Chicago, was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle after an incident at 4:10 a.m., police said.

Police reports said a man at a La Grange Park home awoke in the night to find someone stealing his brother’s silver BMW M5 from the driveway. The man followed the BMW in a second car (a 1984 Porsche) in a chase, in which Westchester police briefly participated before quitting their pursuit, which eventually ended on the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue in Maywood. After a brief foot chase, during which the defendant appeared to injure his shin, Maywood police finally accosted the defendant near the corner of Green Street and 1st Avenue in Maywood.

The victim later told police the spare key to the BMW had gone missing during a party a few weeks earlier, among other items. Police said the defendant denied having driven the stolen BMW and claimed he was walking before the man started chasing him. Alkaramla was booked on charges on felony possession of a stolen vehicle.
