Blotter: Stolen Bikes, Youth Incidents and Vehicles Egged

Here are items taken from the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

Bikes Stolen, Found

A blue Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen possibly off the driveway or out of a garage of a home on the 200 block of south Stone Avenue, learned Oct. 17. The bike’s value was $180.  

A bicycle was chained for several days to a stop sign on the corner of the 500 block of Ashland Avenue, police learned Oct. 16. The bike was secured with a cable lock and police said they will wait for someone to unlock it.

Youth Incidents

A youth who crossed the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks at Burlington Avenue and La Grange Road at about 1:03 p.m. Oct. 17 was given a local ordinance violation ticket.

Two teenage boys were reported riding their bicycles on the roof the La Grange Field Club, 1300 W. 47th St., at about 5:15 p.m. Oct. 16, but were gone when police arrived.

Woman Falls in Church

An 83-year-ol Hodgkins woman who fell in St. Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., was taken by LaGrange Fire Department ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 8:57 a.m. Oct. 16.

Five Vehicles Egged

Five incidents of vehicles being hit by thrown eggs were reported to La Grange police between 8:35 and 10:29 p.m. Oct. 15. The incidents happened at 50th Street and LaGrange Road; the 700 block of south Sixth Avenue; Seventh Avenue and Plainfield Road; 47th Street and LaGrange Road; and 1100 block of Arlington Street.

Planter Damaged

A large planter on the porch of a home on the 500 block of Blackstone Avenue was reported Oct. 15 as having been broken the previous night. The resident also reported, in an email to the police chief, that a copper downspout was stolen earlier in the year.  

La Grange Park Tickets 2

Alfredo Banuelos, 43, of Stickney was ticketed for expired registration and no valid driver’s license after a officer stopped his green 1996 Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicle at 31st Street and Brainard Avenue at about 10:46 a.m. Oct. 13 for having a sticker that expired Sept. 30 on his license plate. The driver said he had insurance but no valid driver’s license. When the officer asked for identification, he saw a driver’s license, later found to be fraudulent, in the wallet. Since the driver did not present it as identification, he was not charged with possession of fraudulent identification, a Class 4 felony, police said. Police confiscated and destroyed the driver’s license.

A 55-year-old Lyons man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and four other traffic violations after La Grange Park police stopped his 1996 Ford Escort they said was going 56 mph in a 30-mph zone and drifted over the double yellow lines four times while southbound on the 1100 block of north La Grange Road at about 3:31 a.m. Oct. 8. Juan M. Valle was ticketed for driving under the influence; driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content of more than .08 (.203); speeding; expired registration; and improper lane usage. His car was towed. He posted $100 bail and faces a Nov. 7 court date.

Cab in Collision

No tickets were issued, nor injuries reported when the right side of a car driven by a La Grange man collided at Madison and Elm avenues with the front of a cab owned by Fifth Avenue Cab at about 12:54 p.m. Oct. 13.
