Blotter: Scams, Identity Theft, Fraudulent Checks reported to La Grange Police

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

A stranger who called a La Grange woman asking her to meet him at Walmart and give him money was among the three possible scams, identity theft or fraudulent checks reported to La Grange police between March 9 and 11.

The woman told police March 11 that she received a call from a man who asked about her husband; she replied that he was not home. He wanted her to meet him at Walmart to give her money. Police told her it seemed like a scam call and they would watch her home.

In similar reports, a La Grange man reported he received an email the morning of March 9 from Turbo Tax that someone used his Social Security number to file a tax return.  No loss was reported and the FBI and Federal Trade Commission are investigating, said Ken Uher, La Grange police investigator.
