Man Dies After Shooting Accident in Lyons Gun Shop

Riverside man dies at Loyola University Hospital from head wounds after an accidental shooting in a Lyons gun shop Tuesday afternoon.

A 49-year-old Riverside man died Tuesday after an accidental shooting at a firing range in Lyons, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Michael Babinsky, 49, of the 300 block of Nutall Road in Riverside, was pronounced dead about 5:36 p.m. at Loyola University Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.

According to a news release from the Lyons Police Department, police were called to the Midwest Gun Shop in the 8500 block of Plainfield Road in Lyons about 1:55 p.m. for a reported shooting in the gun range area.

Police found the injured person on the first floor of the gun range with what appeared to be a serious head wound. Police told ABC7 News they believe the man may have accidentally shot himself. 

Lyons officers and detectives are reviewing video surveillance from the gun store and are treating the incident as a possible accidental shooting, police said.
