Reported to Police: Theft at LADSE, iPod Found, Burning Food

Here are items from the La Grange police blotter.

A 40-foot flagpole in front of the La Grange Post Office, 121 W. Hillgrove Ave., was reported down on the street at about 1:06 a.m. Feb. 17. Police moved the pole and the flag was recovered. The cause of the pole falling down was not given. A U.S. postal inspector was notified about the incident.

Items worth more than $300 were reported as stolen Feb. 17 out of the La Grange Area Department of Special Education office at 1301 W. Cossitt Ave., according to La Grange police. More information was not available.

Someone broke into two cars parked in the 1400 block of 50th Street, damaging the vehicles, La Grange police learned Feb. 17. Whether any items were stolen is not listed.

A woman living in the 100 block of north Ashland Avenue reported Feb. 16 that items were taken out of her unlocked car parked at her house during the night.

A La Grange woman’s neighbor and police are on alert after she received a suspicious telephone call that she suspected could lead to her apartment being burglarized. The woman said that while she has been at Plymouth Place, recovering from surgery, a man called and talked to a nurse, who confirmed she was there. The man left a telephone number but when the woman called back, the man said he was looking for someone else.

Two men, reported “drinking and swearing,” found at about 11:17 a.m. Feb.16 in a Mercedes parked in a private parking space behind a condominium in the 900 block of south Eighth Avenue, were determined to be on a lunch break. The two were talking and eating. A beer can was found in the car, police said. The two men, ages 29 and 49, had to get a ride back to work since police found both of their driver’s licenses were suspended.  

An iPod was found Feb. 16 on Seventh Avenue, according to police.

Burning food set off a fire alarm at about 10:43 a.m. Feb. 16 at Trader Joe’s, 25 N. LaGrange Road. The La Grange Fire Department responded.
