Prairie Grass Burn Starts Soon at La Grange Country Club

Smoke and fire will appear at the La Grange Country Club anytime between March 29 and May 1 as part of a prescribed burn.

Smoke will soon rise from the landscape of the La Grange Country Club, but that’s all part of a plan, according to a notice from Tallgrass Restoration.

The ecological restoration company will be burning prairie grass at the club sometime between March 29 and May 1, the notice said.

The fire will be a controlled burn conducted following Illinois Environmental Protection Agency rules. Trained Tallgrass staff will carry out the fire, ensuring that flames don’t spread where they shouldn’t.

Tallgrass requires the wide window of possible dates because it must set the fires only under ideal weather conditions.

Prairie grass burns help maintain healthy growth, benefiting both the plants themselves and animals who rely on them, according to the Nature Conservancy.
