Power, Traffic Signals Still Out After Tuesday Night Storm

Tree branches fall onto cars, outage closes La Grange Park buildings.

Power and traffic signals continue to be out Wednesday morning in La Grange and La Grange Park after a severe thunderstorm the previous night.

In La Grange Park, the library, Jewel-Osco and Fifth-Third Bank are closed due to power outages. The Village Hall and police station have limited power supplied by a generator.

Traffic signals are not working on LaGrange Road at Ogden Avenue and Homestead Road and on 31st Street at Forest Road and Maple Avenue.

In La Grange, tree limbs fell on a Brookfield woman’s 2010 Honda Civic parked at Park and Maple avenues at about 9:41 p.m. June 21 and on a homeowner’s car parked on the 100 block of north Waiola Avenue at about 10:52 that night.  

A large tree limb was reported at about 1:33 a.m. June 22 hanging over the street on 41st Street west of Dover Avenue. A police officer could not pull it down and Public Works was notified.

La Grange police received 13 calls between 8:42 p.m. June 21 and 2:54 a.m.  June 22 of wires down in yards in the 200 block of Blackstone Avenue, 300 block of south Edgewood Lane; 300 block of Eighth Avenue; and 300 block of south Madison Avenue.

Wires also were down on the 0-100 and 100-200 blocks  of Dover Avenue, 48th Street and Ninth Avenue; 700 block of south Catherine Avenue; 1100 block of 41st Street; Ogden and Brainard avenues; 100 block of Hayes Avenue; 47th Street and Park Avenue; and 200 block of Blackstone  Avenue.

A resident of the 500 block of Eighth Avenue reported being on oxygen and the power went out.  One resident on the 200 block of Ninth Avenue called police when a CPAP machine used to sleep was not working due to the power outage.

The storm caused burglar alarms to sound at two banks on LaGrange Road and other locations.

A stand pipe failed in the La Grange pump station at East Avenue and Plainfield Road at about 11:38 p.m.

Tree branches could be seen along many streets in both villages.
