Updated: La Grange Police Cordon Off Building for Home Invasion Investigation

Three men are suspected in home invasion in La Grange this morning where a nanny and three children were locked in the bathroom during the burglary.

11:45 a.m.

La Grange police are currently investigating a burglary that occurred in an apartment complex at the corner of La Grange Road and 47th Street this morning.

According to a statement from police, the burglary occurred at about 8:30 a.m. today when a nanny was outside the apartment building putting three children into a vehicle.

The woman was approached by three men who asked her to go back into the apartment and showed her a "dark handgun." Inside the apartment, the men told the nanny and the children to remain inside a bathroom and to not come out. The nanny remained in the bathroom for approximately 45 minutes until she was confident the men had left. She then called police at about 9:20 a.m. No one was injured in the home invasion.

The home was burglarized and police have been searching the area for evidence with the help of a K-9 unit. It is still not known what items have been taken and police are continuing to work with the South Suburban Major Crimes Assistance Team to gather information.

Police believe the suspects were gone from the area well before police were notified.

Description of Suspects:

Suspect #1: African American male in his 30s, approximately 6-feet-tall and weighing 250 pounds. He was seen wearing a knit cap, a dark grey sweatshirt and dark pants. The suspect was carrying a dark semi-automatic handgun.

Suspect #2: African American male in his 30s, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He was seen wearing a light brown sweatshirt and dark pants. The suspect had a "twisted goatee" and was armed with a dark-colored handgun.

Suspect #3: African American male in his 20s, approximately 6-feet-tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was seen wearing a black hat and black shirt and is not believed to have been carrying a weapon.

10:30 a.m.

Officers from both the La Grange Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff's Office, as well as the United States Marshal Service, have taped off an apartment building on the southwest side of the intersection of 47th Street and La Grange Road.

The officers have brought in a K-9 unit, including at least one bloodhound.

Initial reports indicate that a home invasion may have occurred.

Police have not given any statement yet. Patch will update throughout the day with further information as it becomes available.
