Police Blotter: Woman's Finger Amputated, Field Club Pool Filled With Bagels

SUNDAY, JULY 1

Storm Knocks Down Trees, Wires

An afternoon thunderstorm is blamed for downed wires and trees in La Grange.

Trees were reported down at Kensington and Calendar avenues at about 12:42 p.m. and also on the southeast corner of 41st Street and Edgewood at about 1:35 p.m.

Wires were down at two houses on the 300 block fo south Edgewood Lane at about 12:46 p.m.

Woman’s Finger Amputated

A 46-year-old woman whose finger was amputated was yelling for help and screaming, “It hurts, it hurts,” at 49th Street and Eighth Avenue at about 11 a.m. She was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital. Police did not indicate how the finger was amputated, or whether it was able to be sewn back.

Water Main Breaks

A possible water main break on the 100 block of south Edgewood was reported to Public Works at about 6:51 p.m.

Kids Shooting Water Balloons

Three kids using a slingshot to shoot water balloons was reported on the 0-100 block of north Brainard Avenue at about 9:58 p.m., but police said they could not find them.

Swimming With Bagels?

Five dozen bagels were thrown into the pool at the La Grange Field Club, 1300 W. 47th St.,  between 9 p.m. June 30 and 7 a.m. July 1.  

SATURDAY, JUNE 30

Credit Cards Stolen, Found

Lombard police reported June 30 that they recovered some credit cards at a Target that had been stolen the previous day at Corner Bakery. A woman reported a wallet had been stolen out of her purse at about 1:47 p.m.

Man Suspected of Intending to Break Window

A La Grange police officer stopped a 57-year-old La Grange man who walked up to a window at McDonald's, 100 N. La Grange Rd., with three rocks in his hands at about 8:35 p.m. and looked like he was going to throw them through the window. The officer confiscated the rocks.

Woman Struck by Bicyclist Taken to Hospital

A 63-year-old woman was struck by a bicyclist on the 0-100 block of south La Grange Road June 30 and hit her head on the sidewalk. She was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 9:07 p.m.

Man Staring at House

A man wearing a green shirt and rolled-up jeans was staring at a house at 49th Street and Madison Avenue at about 10:26 a.m. He became confrontational to a witness, but left.

Possible Water Main Break

A possible water main break on the 500 block of Seventh Avenue was called in at about 4:48 a.m. and reported to Public Works.

If the Owner Calls, Hang Up

A woman reported she was in the Robert Coulter Jr. American Legion Hall, 900 S. La Grange Rd., between 7 and 10 p.m. and later realized her silver Nextel phone was missing. She told police the next day that she called the phone and someone hung up.

Car Keyed

A car parked at Madison and Cossit avenues was found to be keyed at about 1:11 p.m.
