Police Blotter: Police Get 3rd Call About Speeding Motorcyclist and More

La Grange, La Grange Park police reports, June 9-13

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13

Vandalism Downtown

Three globes and a lens from light posts in the business district were found damaged. Damage will cost $2,000 to repair.

More Damage Reported

More than $1,000 worth of damage was reported to landscaping at a home on the 100 block of south La Grange Road.

Tools Stolen Out of Van

A van parked on the 300 block of east Lincoln Avenue was broken into and tools were stolen.

Skateboarder Suspicious

An older male with “lots of piercings” was reported riding a skateboard up and down the streets near 53rd Street and Madison Avenue at about 5:39 p.m. June 13. He wore a black-and-red hat, black hoodie and carried a black backpack. Police could not find him.

Third Call on Speeding Motorcyclist

Police received phone calls about a motorcyclist speeding up and down the 900 block of Sixth Avenue at about 5:58 p.m. This was the third time in several weeks that the motorcyclist was sighted.

More Ding-Dong Ditching

Two males with long hair were ringing doorbells on the 800 block of Eighth Avenue and fleeing, police were told.

Kids in Park Late

Eight youngsters were in a park at 53rd Street and Spring Avenue at about 9:49 p.m., but already had been shooed away by Countryside police by the time La Grange police were notified.  

Two Puppies Found

Two stray puppies were found on Burlington Avenue between La Grange Road and Sixth Avenue at about 7:13 a.m. and brought to the Hinsdale Humane Society. One dog was a female white poodle mix with a pink collar and the other was a male, black-and-white Jack Russell Terrier mix with no collar.

TUESDAY, JUNE 12

Teens Set Off Fireworks

A group of teenagers was reported setting off fireworks on the 100 block of west Cossitt Avenue at about 8:41 p.m. They were gone when police arrived.

Laptop Computer Missing

A Brookfield man told La Grange police that he came out of Starbucks, 38 S. La Grange Rd, at about 9:49 p.m., he discovered that his laptop computer was missing from his car parked a short distance away. He last saw the computer in his back seat in Glenview and was not sure where it was taken.

Parking Garage Active

  • A group of teenage boys hanging out in the lot at the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., at about 10:12 p.m. were sent on their way by police.  
  • Public Works workers found a Razor scooter with pink wheels next to the parking garage at about 7:23 a.m.

Construction Items Dumped

Sometime during the night, construction items including shingles were dumped on property on the 500 block of east Shawmut Avenue. Police will conduct a special watch of the property.

ID and Other Items Stolen

A resident of Windsor Place, 42 S. Ashland Ave., reported that an identification card and other items worth more than $500 were stolen from a room. The resident will have the locks changed.  

MONDAY, JUNE 11

Lost Wallet Found, But Money Missing

A 13-year-old Western Springs girl told La Grange police June 11 that she lost her wallet at the La Grange Theatre, 80 S. La Grange Rd., it was found and turned in, but $22 was missing from inside.

Bike Stolen at Train Depot

A Raleigh SC40 gray bicycle was stolen during the day at the Stone Avenue train station, 625 Burlington Ave., where it had been locked up. The lock was cut. The bicycle was worth $439.

Kids Drinking in Park–Not

A party at Elm Park with underage drinking and music playing was reported at about 10:11 p.m.. Police investigated and said people were in the park, but no alcohol was seen.

SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Cement Pig Damaged

Between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. June 9, an ornamental cement pig was dropped from its resting place on a porch on the 300 block of Ashland Avenue and broken. The estimated damage was $300.

Items Stolen in Park From Basketball Players

An iPod, iPhone and wallet left unattended at Memorial Park, La Grange Road and Woodlawn Avenue, were taken at about 6 p.m. while the owners of the items played basketball. The iPod was taken from a clothes bag and the iPhone and wallet were removed from inside a hat. Estimated value of the iPod is $250; and the other items, $450.
