Blotter: No Fighting, Daughter Threatened and More

Patch's coverage of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotter.

An OnStar device in a car driven by a 85-year-old La Grange woman helped police find her after her daughter said she had not come home Oct. 25.

Her daughter told La Grange police at about 9:12 p.m. that her mother was not home or answering her telephone.  Police checked parking lots of Adventist La Grange Hospital but said they could not find her car.

Once the daughter filed a missing-person report with police, OnStar checked the device and reported the mother’s vehicle was in the parking lot of the Jewel-Osco in La Grange Park. An officer found her and reported she was on her way home safely.

Concession Stand Break-in

Entry was made at about 7:17 a.m. Oct. 25 to the Babe Ruth concession stand at on East Avenue south of 47th Street. Police did not indicate what, if anything, was taken.

Rocks Break Grapevine Windows

Rocks were thrown at and broke windows of the Grapevine restaurant, 9 W. Hillgrove Ave., police learned at about 9:47 a.m. Oct. 25.

Metal Detecting Stopped

La Grange police were called to , 47th Street and Waiola Avenue, at about 5:01 p.m. Oct. 25 for a report of a man using a shovel to dig holes in the ground. An officer found a 55-year-old man who said he had a metal detector and was walking around the benches;  if he found something, he would dig it up. The officer told him to replace the grass he dug up and to stop digging in the park.  

Driver Following Boy

A crossing guard said at about 8:06 a.m. Oct. 26 that he was flagged down by a woman who saw a small black vehicle with a male driver following a small child north on Washington Avenue from Cossitt Avenue about five minutes previously. An officer could not find the vehicle.  

Car Window Smashed

A male wearing a gray hoodie smashed the window of a car parked behind a home on the 900 block of Eighth Avenue and took off west on 51st Street at about 12:46 a.m. Oct. 26.

Possible Fight Doesn’t Occur

Security at Lyons Township High School north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., alerted La Grange police at about 3:10 p.m. Oct. 26 of a large group in front of the school and a potential fight.  No fight was found. Police stayed in the area and said there was no problem.

Parkway Damaged

A car went off the road and struck and damaged the parkway in front of two homes on the 300 block of south Kensington Avenue at about 3:236 p.m. Oct. 26 and drove with two flat tires, La Grange police said.  

Daughter Threatened

A woman reported Oct. 26 that her 16-year-old daughter was being threatened at the Lyons Township High School north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave., by a 17-year-old boy. She planned to meet the next day with high school officials.

Scam Phone Call

A La Grange woman reported Oct. 26 that she received a telephone call at about 3:22 a.m. from a phone number with a 630 area code and when she tried to call back, she did not get an answer. She told police Comcast told her the telephone number is part of a scam. She said she previously received calls in the middle of the night about getting a home security system, but they have stopped.

Raccoon Rescued

A raccoon hit by a vehicle on 47th Street east of Brainard Avenue was found to be injured but still alive at about 7:28 a.m. Oct. 26. A La Grange Public Works employee found the raccoon on 47th Street between  Brainard and Stone avenues and took it to the forest preserve.

Dog Found

A huskie dog was found at Shawmut and Tilden avenues at about 7:31 a.m. Oct. 26 and traced through a microchip to its owner, a Brookfield woman.

Driver gets 2 Tickets

A 41-year-old Wood Dale man, Rafael A. Vargas, was ticketed for improper lane usage and no valid driver’s license after La Grange Park police stopped his purple 1997 Chrysler Town and County van they said crossed the double-yellow lines while northbound on the 700 block of north La Grange Road at about 1:06 a.m. Oct. 25.

Sideswiping Account False

A Brookfield man told La Grange police that a black car sideswiped his car on LaGrange Road at Hillgrove Avenue at about 2:49 p.m. Oct. 25. An officer said his car had a deep scratch on the passenger side but no paint transfer from a black vehicle. The damage went from front to rear when a sideswipe should have been in the opposite direction, police said. Confronted, the driver told police he was trying to go around a large truck and hit something protruding from the vehicle. The police report did not indicate whether the car driver was charged with anything.

Hit-and-run Reported

A hit-and-run accident was reported in front of Walgreen’s, 2 N. La Grange Road, at about 2:49 p.m. Oct. 25. The car that fled was a black sedan.
