Police Blotter: Kids Chase Bunnies, Bike Incidents and More

La Grange and La Grange Park police reports, June 1-6

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6

Young Driver Hits Tree

A car driven by a 15-year-old girl struck a tree at 49th Street and Kensington Avenue  at about 3:34 p.m., according to La Grange police. The report stated Public Works would need to put up a new stop sign, but did not indicate whether the girl, whose hometown was not listed, hit it. She received one unidentified citation.

Bicyclist Hits Car

A bicyclist, who struck a car parked at the entrance of Lexington Health Care, 4735 S. Willow Springs Rd., at about 12:53 p.m., refused medical treatment or to wait for police and continued southbound, police said. He was 18 to 20 years old and wore a backpack.

Pedestrians Report Cyclists

A woman told La Grange police that she and her husband were walking in the downtown business district between 1 and 2 p.m. when 18- to 20-year-olds riding bicycles almost hit them. Police were to keep a special watch.

Wanted Man Already in Jail

Cook County sheriff’s police reported that a 31-year-old La Grange man, wanted on a local warrant for driving while his license is suspended, is in Cook County Jail.

Wallet Found, Returned

A brown trifold wallet was found at 47th Street and East Avenue and turned in to La Grange police. The wallet was picked up by the wife of its owner, a Countryside man.

Money Found

Three $1 bills were found June 6 in the La Grange Business District and turned in to police.

TUESDAY, JUNE 5

Theater Bathroom Damaged

Someone pulled away from the wall the divider between two urinals in the men’s bathroom at the La Grange Theatre, 80 S. La Grange Rd., sometime after the 10:30 p.m. show.

Bike is Smashed

A male reported at about 4:51 p.m. that some children smashed his bicycle at Cossitt Avenue School, 115 W. Cossitt Ave.

Photographers Look Suspicious

Four people were seen taking photos of houses on the 200 block of Seventh Avenue at about 7:08 p.m., but were gone when police arrived.

Kids at Parking Garage Sent on Way

  • Five or six youngsters skateboarding on the top deck of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., were sent on their way by police at about 3:32 p.m.
  • Youngsters were reported standing on the ledge on the top deck of the parking garage at about 8:03 p.m. Police told them to leave.

Keys Found in Parking Garage

Keys to a Nissan were found at about 6:25 p.m. in the parking garage. The keys had an LA Fitness keychain, and that business will notify the owner the keys were found.

MONDAY, JUNE 4

Kids Throw Bottles

A resident of the 0-100 block of Seventh Avenue told police that youngsters were throwing glass bottles at the house. Police could not find them.

Boy Ignores Crossing Gates

A 16-year-old boy was cited after La Grange police said he went around lowered railroad crossing gates at La Grange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 6:28 p.m.

Skaters Told to Leave Village Fountain

Skateboarders outside the fountain at La Grange Village Hall, 53 S. La Grange Rd., at about 5:46 p.m. were warned by police that skateboarding is illegal there.

Kids Chasing Bunnies

La Grange police could not locate a group of children reported to be chasing and trying to catch bunnies at La Grange Road and Harris Avenue at about 8:27 p.m. The caller was worried that the bunnies might get hurt.

SUNDAY, JUNE 3

Hit-and-Run in Parking Lot

An unknown vehicle struck the left rear of a La Grange man’s Toyota Camry parked in village Lot 13 at Burlington and Brainard avenues.

Woman Hurt in Accident

A 24-year-old Brookfield woman was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after her westbound car was struck on Ogden Avenue at about 5:25 p.m. by a car that continued north on Ashland Avenue, despite a sign that said only right turns are permitted during rush hour. The  other driver, a 17-year-old La Grange girl, was ticketed for failure to reduce her speed to avoid an accident. She and a passenger refused medical treatment.

FRIDAY, JUNE 1

Bypassing Stopped Cars Leads to Crash

A woman, driving east on Ogden Avenue, made a left turn onto Kensington Avenue from the right lane and collided with a westbound vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. She was attempting to get around stopped cars ahead of her and in the left lane. The 49-year-old driver was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left.
