Police Blotter: Hitman Scam Via Text, Car Hit by Paintball and More

La Grange police reports July 31-Aug. 1

TUESDAY, JULY 31

Death Threat Via Text

A resident called police around 11:33 a.m. to report that a death threat was received at about 7:36 a.m. that morning via text message. The message stated that the text was from a hitman from Kuwait and was hired to kill the resident, that the home could currently be surrounded, and for the resident not to do anything stupid. The message continued that the resident had seven days, but was then cut off. Police advised the resident to have the number blocked and to not respond to the messages. An Internet search for the number showed that this was a scam.

Bike Stolen From Stone Avenue Station

A resident of the 300 block of north Waiola Avenue told police at 7:17 p.m. that he had locked up a white-and-black Giant bicycle at the Stone Avenue Train Station and it was stolen. The bike had a Bell Comfy Seat cushion on it and grey Drake foot straps. The loss was estimated at about $700.

Suspicious Person Hanging Around Business

An employee of a business on the 9600 block of Ogden Avenue called police at about 6:18 p.m. to say that a white male, described as tall with thin grey hair and glasses had been seen hanging around the building the last few nights. The employee requested a special watch of the area.

Back Door Open When Resident Returns

A resident of the 1200 block of Carriage Lane called police at 5:27 p.m. to report that she had just returned home to find the back door of her house open. Police searched the resident’s house and found nothing disturbed, and no indication of forced entry. The resident insisted her door was locked when she left. A dog walker also stated that she did not notice an unlocked door. The resident was instructed to call if anything was found to be missing.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 1

Resident Says Landlord is Threatening Him

A resident of the 0-100 block of Waiola told police at 7:27 p.m. that his landlord was threatening him and asking him why he still lived in the apartment he is renting. The resident told police that he still has a month left on his lease. Both parties were told to stay away from each other.

Wrong Crossing, No Playing

Someone called police at about 5:42 p.m. to report that people were crossing the tracks at Stone Avenue Station in an improper way and that youngsters were jumping off the platform onto the tracks. Police warned two subjects and sent them on their way.

Lawn Run Down

A resident on the 0-100 block of Hayes Avenue told police at 4:14 p.m. that a blue car had just run over his lawn and was sitting under a nearby bridge. Police found no damage to the lawn and the subject was not found in the area.

Photographer Told to Move On

A resident of the 800 block of south La Grange Road who was taking a picture of the license plate of a police vehicle at about 4:08 p.m. parked behind the station was advised that his behavior was suspicious and not to do it again. The man told police the license plate was similar to the name of someone he knew. 

Paintball Dents Vehicle

A resident called police at 8:59 p.m. to report that while he was driving past the 900 block of south La Grange Road a paintball hit his car and dented it. The other vehicle, which he believe fired the paintball, took off heading north on La Grange Road and could not be located by police.
