Police Blotter: Dry-Cleaning Scam at Restaurants; Crow Found in Apartment

Group Shooed from Sawyer Park

A group that was in Sawyer Park, Sawyer Avenue  south of Calendar Avenue, after hours at about 1:09 a.m. was sent away by La Grange police.

Dry-Cleaning Scam Successful at 3 Restaurants

La Grange police are investigating a scam at three downtown restaurants in which a man came in and presented a dry-cleaning bill supposedly owed by the owners. The owner subsequently knew nothing about the bill. The restaurants are on the 0-100 block of south La Grange Road and 0-100 block of west Calendar Avenue. One of the restaurants turned down a second attempt at the scam. The man was described by one restaurant as about 6-foot-2, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair in a short buzz-cut and wearing a blue/gray shirt with blue jeans. 

Crow Found in Apartment

A crow was reported in an apartment on the 300 block of Bluff Avenue and the bird was removed by a police officer at about 8:42 a.m.

Kids Swimming in Village Fountain

Youngsters wearing bathing suits were swimming in the fountain west of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., and were told by a police officer at about 4:29 p.m. to get out.  

Car Broken Into in Parking Lot

Shoes and $10 were taken from a car parked in village parking Lot 6, at the northeast corner of Sixth  and Harris avenues, police learned at about 5:44 p.m.

Vehicle Damaged in LT Lot

A vehicle parked by the Vaughan Building lot at the Lyons Township High School North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave,., was found damaged at about 3:34 p.m.

Coke Truck Backs Into Sign

A Coca-Cola delivery truck backed into a village sign at 340 E. Burlington Ave., at about 2:51 p.m. The truck was gone when police arrived.

Group of 20 Sent Away

A large group of people was reported being loud and drinking on the 700 block of east Cossitt Avenue at about 11:05 p.m. Police sent the 20 people on their way.

Woman Who Fell Taken to Hospital

A 42-year-old woman living on the 800 block of Eighth Avenue and who fell down the stairs, later reported back pain. She was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 8:42 a.m.

Lawn Mower Knocks Metal Into Car Window

A landscaping company mowing grass in the area of the 0-100 block of Hayes Avenue kicked up some rocks and sent a piece of metal into a resident’s car, breaking the driver’s side rear window at about 12:18 p.m. The resident will handle the matter with the landscaping company.
