Blotter: Grandmother Loses Money in Scam, Stolen Identities and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

A La Grange grandmother lost money when she responded to a scam that her grandson was hurt and in jail in Texas and needed $3,000. After sending money, the Spring Avenue resident was told more cash was needed. She contacted her grandson and found out he was fine, La Grange police learned Dec. 8.

Two Identities Stolen

No more information was available Dec. 13 from La Grange police on identity theft reported Dec. 11 by a resident of the 400 block of south LaGrange Road.

A resident of south Kensington Avenue told La Grange police Dec. 12 of receiving ComEd bills for electricity use at a Harvey home from May to October and totaling $879.59. ComEd did not hold the resident liable for the identity theft, according to La Grange police on Dec. 12.

Equipment Stolen

Several pieces of construction equipment were stolen in the apparent forced entry of a business on the 100 block of Hayes Avenue that was reported at about 8:24 a.m. Dec. 9.

Vehicles Broken Into

Someone entered unlocked vehicles on the 300 block of north Kensington and 400 block of north Catherine Avenue  between 9 and 10 p.m. Dec. 10 and took miscellaneous items, La Grange Park police said.

Car break-ins that happened at about 2 p.m. Dec. 11 in a parking lot on the 300 block of Bluff Avenue were reported the next day to La Grange police by a witness who had not been carrying a cell phone at that time. The witness said a woman drove a gray sport-utility vehicle into the lot and a male passenger, possibly a teen, checked the doors of vehicles and took items from inside unlocked cars. Police told the witness to call 9-1-1 right away if they see another incident.

Cereal Robber

Investigating a report at about 9:36 a.m. Dec. 12 of a woman taking items out of a recycling bin on the 400 block of south Catherine Avenue, La Grange police said she told them she took just a cereal box for “Box Tops for Education.” Police told her not to take any more items out of the bins.

Hockey Tickets Stolen

Hockey tickets worth $280 that had been placed under the doormat of a home on the 900 block of south Catherine were reported stolen at about 5:38 p.m. Dec. 9. A neighbor also had noticed that gardening items had been moved between 10a.m. and 5 p.m. that day.

Wallet Stolen

A wallet was stolen out of a purse at Corner Bakery, 39 N. La Grange Rd., about 15 minutes earlier, La Grange police learned at about 12:46 p.m. Dec. 9.

Satellite Dish Stolen

A satellite dish was stolen Dec. 6 off the roof of a home on the 1000 block of south Eighth Avenue, La Grange police learned Dec. 8. The homeowner replaced the dish.
