Blotter: Battery, Burglary and Pot

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

Girl at LT Battered

A Brookfield girl was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital by La Grange Fire Department ambulance at about 10:15 a.m. Feb. 7 after she was a battery victim at Lyons Township High School North Campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave. Her age was not given. No more information was available Feb. 9 from police investigators.

A man in a silver Hyundai was reported Feb. 8 as driving several times around St. Cletus School, 700 W. 55th St., at about 7:55 a.m. every day for a week.  The driver does not drop off any kids at the school, La Grange police were told.  Police were to keep a special watch.

Theft at Library

A theft at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave., was reported Feb. 8. The police report did not state what was taken, but stated the value was $500 and under. No more information was available Feb. 9 from police investigators.

Abandoned Bikes Picked Up

Two bicycles that had been left at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave., were picked up Feb. 6 by La Grange police.  They were a girl’s green Schwinn 26-inch and a men’s blue Roadmaster 26-inch bicycle.

Bike Seen Being Stolen

A bicycle was reported stolen at First United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cossitt Ave. , at about 6:37 p.m. Feb. 8. About 28 minutes earlier someone told La Grange police a man with dark hair and wearing a green shirt walked into the church and rode out on a bicycle. The caller thought it suspicious, but did not know whether the man owned the bicycle.

Business Burglarized

A 7-year-old iPod, headphones, a lamp and massage vibrating balls were stolen out of a business on the 100 block of Burlington Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 12:33 p.m. Feb. 8.

Car Burglarized

No forced entry was reported in a burglary of a vehicle on the 1000 block of south Brainard Avenue reported at about 6:10 a.m. Feb. 8. Police did not list the items taken.

Backpack Stolen

The backpack of an employee at Meadowbrook Manor, 339 S. Ninth Ave., was reported stolen Feb. 8. Its value was less than $500.

No Pot for Patient

A hospice care caregiver  told La Grange police Feb. 7 that a patient asked for marijuana. When the caregiver said she had no access to marijuana, the patient replied that a neighbor was growing it in a back yard. Police checked the neighbor’s yard and said no marijuana was found.

Solicitors Reported

Two males selling candy for Austin Polytechnical Academy were reported soliciting at about 5:04 p.m. Feb. 8 on the 500 block of Madison. La Grange police told them they need a permit.

Solicitors also were reported by multiple callers at about 7:41 p.m. Feb. 8 on the 400 block of south Kensington Avenue and 600 block of Ninth Avenue. 

Marijuana Found During Traffic Stop

A 21-year-old Mokena man was arrested for possession of cannabis after La Grange police stopped his car at 52nd Street and La Grange Road at about 12:51 a.m. Feb. 7.

Driver taken to Hospital

A 38-year-old Chicago woman was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital by La Grange Fire Department ambulance at about 10:02 a.m. Feb. 7 after she was in an accident with two other vehicles at La Grange Road and Cossitt Avenue.

She was going south and was trying to turn left onto Cossitt with a yellow light when her 2011 Volkswagen  Jetta struck a northbound 1993 Honda Accord in the curb lane driven by a Bolingbrook man. That man told police her vision might have been obscured by a northbound vehicle  stopped in the left lane. After the collision, the Chicago woman’s car spun around and hit a Brookfield woman’s 1996 Buick Park Avenue car that was stopped and facing west on Cossitt. No tickets were issued.

Speeder’ Ticketed’

Jorge A. Guerrero Jr., 19, of Midlothian was ticketed for speeding and no valid driver’s license after La Grange Park police said his 2004 Honda Pilot sport-utility vehicle was going 45 mph in a 30-moh zone on the 1000 block of north La Grange Road at about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 7.

Car Has Wrong Plate

A Berwyn man received four tickets from La Grange Park police at about 4:17 p.m. Jan. 31 after the car he was driving had no front registration while driving on the 1400 block of Kemman Avenue.

He told police he did not know why the plate registered to his ex-wife’s red Pontiac van was on his friend’s dark blue 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

Gabino Moctezuma, 32, was ticketed for no front registration, no insurance, driving with a suspended license and improper use of registration.

Two Hit-and Runs Reported

An unknown vehicle struck a Brookfield man’s 1992 Toyota Camry and a La Grange Park man’s 2006 Lexus on La Grange Road about 25 feet north of Calender Court at about 2:06 p.m. Feb. 4.

A hit-and-run accident also was reported on Sawyer Avenue about 50 feet of Calendar Avenue at about 11:39 p.m. Feb. 3 in which a La Grange man’s 1998 Plymouth was struck.
