Man Tries to Steal Gutters; Officer Turns in Cash; Bike Stolen

Theft of more than $300, boys throwing stones, and more, in the La Grange police blotter.

A resident of the 400 block of south Waiola Avenue told La Grange police at about 3:05 p.m. March 2 that a man tried to steal the gutters from a neighbor’s house. The man was wearing a black jacket and brown pants and was last seen in a silver Honda going east on 47th Street from Waiola.

Dealers' license plates were stolen from two vehicles parked in the driveway of a home in the 100 block of south Seventh Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 4:16 p.m. March 3. Their value was more than $300, police said.

A man living in the 1400 block of 41st Street told La Grange police at about 10:17 p.m. March 2 that his son’s 26-inch, blue and silver Next mens bicycle had been stolen. The bike had been locked next to a pole in the front of the house.

A La Grange police officer turned in $5 in single dollar bills he found flying down the street in the 700 block of west Hillgrove Avenue at about 12:33 p.m. March 3.

One of two dogs, possibly beagles, reported running loose near Tilden and Franklin avenues at about 4:57 p.m. March 2, was picked up and turned over to police.  An officer saw the dogs near Bluff and Cossitt avenues but said he could not get near them. A passer-by caught one dog at LaGrange Road and Cossitt. The other dog was last seen at Bluff and Cossitt.

A person reported two boys throwing rocks at each other near Spring and Burlington avenues at about 5:30 p.m. March 3 and was worried the projectiles might hit a vehicle or break a window. An officer found two boys, ages 15 and 10, who said they were throwing small rocks at each other. They were warned and sent on their way.   

Multiple callers told LaGrange police at about 8:45 p.m. March 3 that street lights were out on Burlington Avenue between Kensington and Brainard avenues. Police notified La Grange Department of Public Works.
