A Palos Hills man is in custody after police say he stabbed his wife and daughter during a domestic dispute at their home and then fled from the scene.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. the Palos Hills Police Department received a call about a stabbing and attempted homicide in the 9700 block of Maple Crest Drive.

Police arrived on the scene and found a woman and her 19-year-old daughter with stab wounds at their neighbors home, police said. Officers were told that Waldemar Dzbik had fled the home in a blue Volkswagen Jetta.

Police say that the daughter heard a commotion and found her father stabbing her mother in an upstairs bathroom of the home. When the daughter attempted to get her father away from her mother he turned and stabbed her in the chest, police said. The wife was stabbed multiple times.

They were transported to Advocate Christ Hospital for treatment. No further details of their health status were available.

This was not the first time police were called to the home for a domestic disturbance, said Dep. Police Chief James Boie.

About two-and-a-half hours later Palos Hills Police Chief Paul Madigan found Dzbik sitting in his car one block south of Joliet Road on Lawndale Ave. in McCook, parked in a trucking company parking lot, police said.

Dzbik spotted Madigan and drove away from the area. McCook Police were then called to assist and Dzbik and was stopped in the 7800 block of W. 47th Street in Lyons and taken into custody, police said.

Police say Dzbik is currently awaiting charges on two felony counts of attempted murder.
