Man Accused of La Grange Sexual Assault Was Convicted Robber on Parole

David A. Mason was convicted in 2009 of holding up a Glen Ellyn gas station, as well as being part of a retail-theft ring; he was paroled in January of this year.

The 28-year-old homeless man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the La Grange parking garage at the intersection of 6th and Harris on Tuesday had been on parole for 10 months, after serving about half of a six-year sentence for two felony convictions, Illinois prison records show.

David A. Mason, whose last known address was in Naperville, was sentenced to two concurrent six-year prison terms in February 2009 for the aggravated robbery of a Glen Ellyn gas station using a handgun and for participating in a scheme to steal electronics from Walmart stores and sell them over the Internet, according the Naperville Sun and the Suburban Life.

He was arrested on Dec. 4, 2008, at the Wheaton train station, entered into Pinckneyville Correctional Center on Jan. 22, 2009. He was paroled on January 4, 2012, having served three years behind bars.

According to the Suburban Life, Mason's 2008 arrest for the armed robbery (in which $300 was stolen) led to the discovery of a four-man retail theft ring. Authorities said Mason and another homeless man were recruited by two men from Lisle and Wheaton to participate in the scheme.

Mason has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and resisting arrest in the Dec. 18 incident in La Grange. He remains in Cook County Jail on $500,000 bond.
