Lawnmowers Stolen, Teen Drives into Storefront: La Grange Police Blotter

MONDAY, NOV. 26

Bronco in Hit-and-Run 

A hit-and-run car accident was reported on the 9600 block of West Ogden Avenue at 5:16 p.m. The car was reported as a blue Bronco. Police have not yet completed a public crash report.

Parking Dispute Turns Nasty

A resident of the 900 block of La Grange Road reported at 12:43 p.m. that a neighbor had attempted to sabotage his car by placing nails underneath the tires. Police ascertained that it was due to an ongoing parking dispute and referred them to their landlord.

Lawnmower Theft I

Police received a report at 8:05 a.m. that a lawnmower was stolen from the parkway at the corner of Kensington and Calendar avenues. The mower was reportedly purchased 20 years ago and was worth less than $500.

SUNDAY, NOV. 25

Bike Taken from Garage

A resident of the 0-100 block of North Brainard Avenue reported that a boy’s green bicycle had been stolen from an unlocked garage sometime over the weekend. The bike’s value was estimated at $75.

Wallet Theft and Fraud

A complainant reported at 3:26 p.m. that her wallet was stolen from her purse while it was left on a chair in the Corner Bakery at North La Grange Road and Ogden Avenue. Police ascertained that charges had been made on at least one credit card in the wallet.

Girl Drives into Storefront

A 16-year-old La Grange girl who was learning how to drive with her father pressed the gas pedal by mistake around 3:06 p.m. while attempting to park and accidentally drove into the storefront of Allan E. Power Plumbing & Heating, 804 Arlington Avenue. The girl was ticketed for driving on the sidewalk and for dangerous driving.

SATURDAY, NOV. 24

Intruders Hang Out in Vacant House

Police received a report at 8:43 p.m. that a number of people were occupying a residence on the 100 block of Washington Avenue that was supposed to be vacant. People were later reported to be running away down an alley. A special watch was placed on the house.

Illegal Driver I

Alma G. Bahena, 36, of the 200 block of 47th Avenue, Bellwood, was stopped at the corner of La Grange Road and Elm Avenue at 5:55 p.m. and charged with driving without a license, police said.

Lawnmower Theft II

A resident of the 400 block of South Kensington Avenue reported at 4:32 p.m. that his lawnmower had been stolen from his residence. The lawnmower was valued at $250.

Car Egged, Mirror Busted

A car was egged on the 500 block of 6th Avenue sometime between 8:00 p.m. Nov. 20 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21. The report stated that the driver’s side rearview mirror had been broken by the eggs. The value of the damage was not estimated.

$1,200 Bike Theft 

A resident of the 0-100 block of South 7th Avenue reported at 10:10 a.m. that a silver Kona mountain bike was stolen from his rear porch on Nov. 21 at around 1:00 p.m. The bike’s value was estimated at $1,200. 

FRIDAY, NOV. 23

Illegal Driver II 

Anna M. Galvan, 24, of the 6900 block of West 64th Place, Chicago, was stopped at the corner of La Grange Road and Hillgrove Avenue at 8:57 a.m. and charged with driving without a license, police said.

THURSDAY, NOV. 22

Illegal Driver III

Javier Arambula, 33, of the 4800 block of South Ada Street, Chicago, was stopped at the corner of Ogden and Dubois avenues in Brookfield at 11:52 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.

Hit-and-Run on Lincoln

A hit-and-run crash reportedly occurred at 7:50 p.m. at the corner of Lincoln and Sawyer avenues. According to a crash report, a car struck two other cars on Lincoln before veering onto Washington Avenue, where the car was abandoned and later towed.

Overnight Parking Request Gone Wrong

Police received a call from a resident of the 900 block of 8th Avenue at 1:44 p.m. requesting permission for overnight street parking but became concerned due to “yelling, screaming and swearing” in the background. According to police, the resident refused to answer over the phone if everything was OK. Police sent officers to check the residence, where the resident was uncooperative. The subject was eventually issued a ticket for not having a village vehicle sticker—and was denied overnight parking permission.

Food Fight Versus House

A resident of the 700 block of South Catherine Avenue reported at 12:02 p.m. that his house had been “bombed with all different [types] of food,” including cherries, sometime between Wednesday and Thursday. No permanent damage was reported.
