Grant to fund firefighter/paramedic position for two years in La Grange.

With a FEMA SAFER grant from Senator Dick Durbin's office, the La Grange Fire Department has hired Adam VanEvery of Evergreen Park as its newest firefighter/paramedic.

The grant will fund VanEvery's position for two years, according to a village staff memo. He was appointed to the position on Jan. 2, and will be sworn into office at the Jan. 13 village board meeting in La Grange.

VanEvery is a licensed paramedic, state certified firefighter and a Hazardous Materials Technician with six years of fire/EMS experience, according to the memo. He most recently worked as a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Blue Island Fire Department.
