La Grange Police Look for Car in Woman's Possible Carjacking

Wallets, cell phones stolen in 3 incidents reported to police.

La Grange police looked for, but could not find, a car that may have been involved in a possible carjacking at about 12:02 a.m. May 22 near Ogden and Gilbert avenues in Western Springs.

Western Springs police said someone came into their station to report a female who was being pulled into her black Mercedes was yelling for help and sounding the car horn. The car was last seen eastbound on Ogden Avenue from Wolf Road. La Grange police searched Ogden and surrounding streets but were unable to find the vehicle.

La Grange police said they do not have a case file on the incident and suggested Western Springs police may be handling it.

Wallets, cell phones stolen

A woman reported May 22 that her wallet had been stolen at Palmers Place,  56 S. LaGrange Rd., and  the credit cards inside had been used.

A Bedford Park man told La Grange police May 21 that his cell phone was stolen inside the emergency room at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 Willow Springs Road.

A wallet that an 18-year-old La Grange man said was stolen between 3 and 5:30 p.m. May 20 from out of an unlocked locker at the Lyons Township High School, 100 S. Brainard Ave., later was found on a front lawn in the 700 block of south LaGrange Road, but cash was missing from inside.  A cell phone stolen at the same time was not recovered, La Grange police said.

Teen party, no break-in

A La Grange man told police he was out for the night and when he came home at about 10:35 a.m. May 22, he believes a bunch of kids may have broken into his house and had a party. His teenage daughter first said she came home and found people in her house; when she asked them to leave, they refused. The daughter later acknowledged she let people into the house but refused to give their names to her parents or police.

Gas leak suspected

The La Grange Fire Department responded to a possible gas leak in Davis Memorial A.M.E. Church, 320 E. Calendar Ave., that was reported at about 11:31 a.m. May 22. No more information was available.

Car window smashed

A resident of the 100 block of north Ashland Avenue reported at about 11:45 p.m.  May 21 that a car window was smashed.

Two found in parking garage

A 15-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman were found at about 12:53 a.m. May 23 in a car on the second floor of the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave. Both were cited for violating village ordinances-the boy for breaking curfew, the woman’s  offense was not listed in the police shift report.

Tourists cause suspicion

A woman called La Grange police at about 12:16 p.m. May 22 to report people were taking photos of her children at Cossitt and Bluff avenues. Police went to the scene and said the photographers are tourists taking pictures of the area, not her children.

Window screen broken

A woman living in the 500 block of south Stone Avenue reported May 19 that a Park District of La Grange employee was cutting grass at Waiola Park and she believes something flew out from under the machine and hit her home window, breaking the screen. The park district denied responsibility, police said. Police told the woman this was a civil matter but they would follow up with the park district.    

Wrong joint

A man living on the 100 block of Hayes reported May 20 that a 47-year-old woman in his home was smoking marijuana and she refused his request to smoke outside. Police said they found no sign of illegal drugs.

Lost and found

Some children were walking a dog near Goodman Avenue and Park Road when it picked up a wallet with money inside May 21. The wallet owner’s mother was contacted and will pick up the wallet.

A fanny pack with Metra identification cards, rubber gloves and paper tissues was found at about 7:09 p.m. May 20 at Ashland and Burlington avenues and given to the owner’s neighbor to be returned.

A resident of the 500 block of south Kensington Avenue reported May 22 that his rear license plate was lost or stolen.      

A stroller and camera found near La Grange Road and Calendar Avenue at about 8 p.m. May 20 was turned over to La Grange police and the owner notified.

A girl’s 26-inch Schwinn Ranger bicycle that had been left out all night at Linklater and Blackstone Avenue was turned over to La Grange police at about 10:16 a.m. May 21 to be picked up by its owner.

A La Grange woman came to the La Grange police station at about 3:38 p.m. May 20 to report her front license plate had fallen off.
