La Grange Police Investigate 'Public Works Employee,' Window Shoppers, Late-Night Skateboarders

Police, fire departments respond to smell of natural gas.

La Grange police are investigating a report of a man wearing a vest and carrying a meter at Sixth and Cossitt avenues at about 3 p.m. May 19 who said he was with the La Grange Public Works department. A public works official told police they had no one out at that location.

Three men were reported walking up to businesses near Walgreens and Trader Joe’s on north La Grange Road, looking inside, but not entering at about 6:44 p.m. May 19. They were in a newer model Suburban with Wisconsin license plates. They were gone when police arrived.

Two 18-year-old men who were skateboarding at about 12:59 a.m. May 19 on Ashland Avenue between Cossitt and Harris avenues were sent on their way by La Grange police, who took their names.

Gas smell reported

A smell of natural gas was reported at about 11:04 a.m. May 19 at the northeast corner of 49th Street and Eighth Avenue. The La Grange Fire Department responded.

Mailbox damaged

A mailbox was damaged at a home in the 1200 block of Carriage Lane, La Grange police learned at about 12:06 p.m. May 19.   

Noise complaints in parks

La Grange police responded twice on May 19, at 5:03 and 5:11 p.m., from loud noise in Sedgwick Park, 48th Street and 10th Avenue, by the basketball courts. Nothing was found the first time, but the second time, police found noise coming from a vehicle.  The owner was told to keep down the noise.

Fireworks were reported at about 6:39 p.m. May 19 at Stone Park, Stone and Monroe avenues,but La Grange police said they found no one there.  

Mostly found

A woman living on the 900 block of south Catherine Avenue told La Grange police May 19 that she came home and found a black suitcase on her front porch. The case was a color-swatch booklet with business cards inside. The woman said she left a message with the company to determine whether this was a joke, the case was garbage or whether it was left at the wrong house.

Someone who was dropping something off at the La Grange police station, 304 W. Burlington Ave., at about 1:48 a.m. May 20 found a checkbook on the counter and turned it over to police. The owner, a Brookfield woman, was notified to pick it up.

A La Grange woman picked up her flip cell phone that was found in village parking lot 8, south side of Harris Avenue at Madison Avenue, at about 7:59 a.m. May 18.

Pit bull attack

A La Grange woman told police that a male friend who was visiting was bit by a pit bull at about 6:45 p.m. May 19 at Kensington and Harris avenues. The friend refused to file a report and left the woman’s home.

Walks by railroad gates

Sarah Therriault, 21, whose hometown was not listed in a La Grange police shift report was cited under village ordinances after police said she walked around lowered Burlington Northern Railroad gates at LaGrange Road at about 10:23 a.m. May 18.
