Display Cell Phone Stolen, Holiday Decoration Thefts: La Grange Police Blotter

TUESDAY, DEC. 11

Fraud from 2011 

Police received a report at 11:36 a.m. that someone gained access to a resident’s bank account back in April of 2011 and committed more than $500 worth of fraud.

Unspecified Theft

A delayed theft of less than $500 was reported at 10:43 a.m. No more information was available at the time of this report.

Drug-Related Graffiti

An officer found graffiti that appeared to be drug-related (not gang-related) on a bay door on the 500 block of Shawmut Avenue at 12:53 a.m. The value of the damage was not reported.

MONDAY, DEC. 10

Ruse-Entry Burglary, Nothing Taken

A resident of the 500 block of South 9th Avenue reported at 4:14 p.m. that she had admitted two men who were claiming to be doing home repairs who then “rummaged through her house.” Police ascertained that nothing appeared to be missing, but described the incident as a “gypsy scam” (or ruse-entry burglary) and reminded residents not to allow unannounced visitors into their homes.

Decoration Theft I

A resident on the 600 block of South Stone Avenue reported at 8:58 a.m. that her Christmas decorations had been stolen. A large and small reindeer with white lights were stolen, and a wire to a lighted snowman was reportedly cut. Police entered the incident as a matter of record.

SUNDAY, DEC. 9

Illegal Driver I

Francisco Mario Conde-Ramos, 37, of the 4500 block of Park Avenue, Brookfield, was stopped for a traffic violation at the corner of Maple Avenue and La Grange Road at 5:39 p.m. and charged with driving without a license, police said. 

SATURDAY, DEC. 8

Hit-and-Run on La Grange Road Signs 

Police said that a car left the road on the 100 block of South La Grange Road and knocked down signs for Adopt-a-Highway and the Rotary Club, as well as caused damage to the parkway. According to a crash report, tire tracks suggested that the vehicle was travelling southbound on La Grange Road when it left the roadway and struck the sign. Police said that hubcaps were left at the scene, but no other vehicle information was available.

Decoration Theft II

A resident of the 700 block of Spring Avenue reported at 8:12 a.m. that someone stole a four-foot tall lighted buck reindeer decoration from her front lawn valued at $200. Police entered the incident as a matter of record.

FRIDAY, DEC. 7

Illegal Driver II

Beatriz Ruiz, 21, of the 6000 block of Lenzi Avenue, Hodgkins, was stopped at the corner of Lincoln and Bluff avenues at 8:51 a.m. and charged with driving without a license.

Decoration Theft III—This Time, Got 'Em Back 

A resident of the 800 block of Calle View Drive reported at 9:34 p.m. that a male suspect was attempting to steal her Christmas decorations. An officer responding to the complaint said that a man fled the scene on foot through neighboring yards. The decorations were recovered; no description of the suspect was available.

Illegal Driver III

Baretha R. Brooks, 46, of the 3600 block of Jackson Street, Bellwood, was stopped at the corner of 47th Avenue and La Grange Road at 12:03 a.m. and charged with driving without a license, police said.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5

Display Cell Stolen

The AT&T store on the 0-100 block of North La Grange Road reported at 5:30 p.m. that an offender was caught on video stealing a Samsung Note cell phone from a display. The theft was more than $500; police said that the investigation is pending.
