La Grange Police Arrest Two for Marijuana Possession

Man cutting short business trip surprises wife, daughter with nighttime return.

Two people were charged with possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana in separate incidents when they were found in cars by La Grange police.

Heather Arnold, 20, of Wheaton was arrested at about 12:05 a.m. Feb. 22 when police were investigating a suspicious car parked behind a home in the 300 block of Bluff Avenue. A caller reported seeing someone count money in the vehicle and suspected drug activity, police said. Matthew Fiala, 20, of Indian Head Park was arrested during a traffic stop at about 12:43 a.m. Feb. 23 at Plainfield Road and 55th Street, according to La Grange police. No more information was available.

La Grange police investigating a call of a possible intruder on the main floor of a home in the 200 block of south Sixth Avenue at about 10:49 p.m. Feb. 22 said they found  a husband who had gone on a business trip, but turned around midway because of bad conditions on roads and came home. His wife and daughter had been hiding in an upstairs bedroom.

A man told La Grange police that he and his children were walking to Cossitt Avenue School the morning of Feb. 21 when a woman in her 50s driving in a minivan almost hit them at Cossitt and Catherine avenues.

La Grange police said they could not find a dark-colored van that was reported in an alley behind 76 S. LaGrange Road with its passenger side door open at about 10:17 p.m. Feb. 22. Officers checked the alley and nearby parking lot.

The LaGrange Fire Department responded to a smell of electrical burning inside a home in the 900 block of south Spring Avenue at about 6:37 p.m. Feb. 22; a smell of something burning in the lower level of First Congregational Church, 100 S. Sixth Ave., at about 9:17 a.m. Feb. 21; a fire call in the 800 block of south LaGrange Road at about 1 p.m. Feb. 22; and mutual aid for a fire at Capital Whole Meats, 8751 W. 50th St. in McCook, at about 9:17 a.m. Feb. 21.

A 58-year-old Hodgkins woman who fell on the sidewalk in the 600 block of south LaGrange Road, causing her head to bleed, at about 12:21 p.m. Feb. 21, refused ambulance transportation to the hospital, La Grange police said.
