La Grange Park Man Charged with Criminal HIV Transmission: Sheriff

John Savage, a Cicero police officer, failed to tell a man that he had HIV before they engaged in sexual activity, the Cook County Sheriff said.

A Cicero police officer was charged Thursday with criminally transmitting HIV to a man he went to the movies with in July 2012, the Cook County Sheriff said.

John Savage, 38, of La Grange Park, engaged in sexual activities with a 24-year-old man at Savage’s home after their date, according to the sheriff’s release. He failed to tell the man he was HIV positive before the encounter, the sheriff said.

The victim later asked if Savage was HIV positive, and when Savage said yes, the man reported the incident to La Grange police.
