La Grange Caregiver Charged with Sexual Assault

La Grange police arrested Dwight Cadelinia, 51, on Sept. 15. Cadelinia has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

La Grange police are reporting that Dwight Cadelinia, 51, was arrested on Sept. 15 and has been charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

The arrest came after police received a call on the evening of Sept. 15 when a La Grange resident reported being the victim of sexual assault. Officer responded and learned that the victim had been touched inappropriately Cadelinia, a family "care-giver,"and a private contractor of Alternative Home Placement Services, based in Westmont, IL. Cadelinia had been living with the victim for the last three years.

When police arrived he was no longer in the house, having fled after hearing the victim had called police. Officers searched the area and found Cadelinia hiding in a recessed window well of the victim's home, according to a press release from Chief Michael Holub.

In the course of the investigation, officers learned a similar assault had occurred about two weeks prior.

At a bond hearing on Sept. 17, bond was set for Cadelinia at $800,000. Cadelinia will return to court on Oct. 11 in Bridgeview, IL.

In a statement issued from Alternative Home Placement Services, the referral service said that this was the first incident ever brought to their attention by someone they have referred.

"We are shocked by the arrest of Dwight Cadelinia and regret any harm that may have come to the care receiver and the family," spokeswoman Michelle Paz said in an emailed statement.

The agency also said that it checks references for prospective caregivers and does a thorough background check on those they refer.
