Possible Magazine Subscription Scam

A resident of the 200 block of South Brainard said she bought $500 worth of magazine subscriptions from a door-to-door vendor who said he was selling them to benefit the Boys & Girls Club. The resident donated the subscriptions to the club, police said. After the seller left, the resident looked up the company on the Better Business Bureau website and discovered several complaints against it, including magazine subscriptions that never arrived, police said. It is unclear at this point if the resident will be out any money, police said.

No Driver’s License

Nayeli Castro, 29, of the 3200 block of South Harlem in Berwyn, was arrested around 7:46 p.m. in the 100 block of South La Grange Road, police said. She was charged with driving without a license.

Truck Windows Smashed

Windows on several trucks were smashed overnight at La Grange Materials, 223 Tilden Avenue, police said.

Kids Set off Noisemakers in La Grange Theatre

A group of kids set off noisemakers in the La Grange Theatre, 80 S. La Grange Rd., around 7:22 p.m., scaring the people inside, police said. Officers were unable to find the teens.

Broken Window

A window was shattered on a home in the 400 block of South Brainard, police said. It’s not clear whether a tree branch or a person broke the window.

Suspicious Spotlight

The driver of a dark SUV traveled up and down South 9th Avenue around the 700 block shining a spotlight at the houses around 12:17 a.m., police said. Officers were unable to locate the SUV.

Flipped Porta Potties

Someone flipped over several porta potties near the intersection of Stone and Burlington, police said.

Yard Waste Dispute

A man in the 900 block of South Madison called police around 5:39 p.m. because his neighbor was cleaning out her gutters and throwing the garbage into his yard, police said. The refuse allegedly came from his trees. The neighbors were referred to Public Works to determine whether the tree crossed the property line and whose responsibility it is to clean up after it.

Plastic Bats Swung at Windows

Kids swung plastic baseball bats at the Clipper Ship Gallery’s windows, 10 W. Harris, around 5:41 p.m., police said. The kids were sent on their way.

Unwelcome Solicitor Waits Out Rain in Yard

A solicitor refused to leave a yard in the 500 block of South 6th Avenue because it was raining, police said. Officers told him that he can’t sit on private property, even if it’s raining.
