Icy Road Blamed for 1 of 3 Ogden Bridge Accidents

Man hurt in crash; La Grange, La Grange Park police ticket several drivers.

An icy road surface on the Ogden Avenue bridge in La Grange between East and Burlington avenues was blamed for a woman’s vehicle hitting a guard rail at about 5:48 p.m. March 5. The 41-year-old Berwyn woman told police she was eastbound in the curbside lane when she lost control of her 2003 Ford Explorer and it hit the rail, scuffing it, about 500 feet east of Burlington. A 13-year-old Berwyn boy inside her car said he was sore but refused to be taken to the hospital, police said.

Also on March 5, a 26-year-old La Grange Park man who was about 100 feet east of Burlington on Ogden told police an unknown car damaged the front and right rear of his 2004 Jeep Cherokee and fled.  

While going east on Burlington at Ogden Avenue at about 9:09 p.m. March 3, a 42-year-old Lyons man’s 2001 Ford collided with the rear of a 44-year-old Brookfield man’s 2003 Jeep Liberty. No tickets were issued.  No injuries were reported.

Kevin Shinkle, 44, of La Grange, was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital after an accident between a minivan and sedan at Goodman and Brainard avenues at about 3:42 p.m. March 6. No more information was available from the police report.

An unknown vehicle struck the front of a 26-year-old Chicago man’s 2011 Dodge Ram 150 in front of 80 S. LaGrange Road and fled, La Grange police learned at about 9:30 p.m. March 4.

Theo Demin-Grant, 27, of Wood Dale, received three tickets, including one for driving while her license was suspended or revoked, when stopped by La Grange police at 150 N. Brainard Ave. at about 2:19 a.m. March 6.

A white vehicle possibly driven by a drunk driver was reported going south on LaGrange Road at 49th Street at about 10:54 p.m. March 4. The vehicle  continued past 55th Street into Countryside; Countryside police took over the case.

A 35-year-old Chicago woman reported March 1 her car was hit the previous day by a 51-year-old Chicago woman’s car that was exiting the west door of the garage at Grayhill company on Hillgrove Avenue about 50 feet east of Stone Avenue. The other driver said her car just tapped the other vehicle in the rear. The younger woman told La Grange police she thought there was significant damage. No tickets were issued.

Very minor damage was reported, La Grange police said, when the front of a 27-year-old La Grange woman’s 1999 Toyota coupe collided with the rear of a 2011 Infiniti driven by a 16-year-old La Grange girl at about 9:11 p.m. March 2 at Harris and Ashland avenues.

A 1993 GMC vehicle driven by a 73-year-old Stickney man collided at about 4:54 p.m. March 3 with the 2008 Ford F-150 driven by a 29-year-old Brookfield man on Spring Avenue about 50 feet north of 53rd  Street, la Grange police said. No tickets were issued. No injuries were reported

A 40-year-old Chicago man, Tyrone Robertson, received tickets for his car's loud exhaust, revoked registration, no insurance and driving while his license was suspended when stopped at about 5:40 a.m. March 3 in the 500 block of north LaGrange Road by a La Grange Park police officer who heard his car approach.

A La Grange Park police officer issued tickets to Humberto Martin, 38, of Chicago for defective headlights and no driver’s license when stopped at about 12:19 a.m. March 1 while going north in the 1200 block of LaGrange Road. Martin showed a Guatemalan passport for identification, police said.

A 40-year-old man from Villa Park received two traffic tickets from La Grange Park police when they stopped his 2007 silver Nissan Altima. They said he was speeding, going 53 mph in a 40-mph zone, at about 1:09 p.m. Feb. 28 in the 1500 block of north LaGrange Road. Luis M. Cervantes, also known as Luis Lopez, was ticketed for speeding and no valid driver’s license when stopped in the 1200 block. Cervantes told police that he and his wife and 8-month-old son were on their way to an appointment at Loyola Hospital in Maywood.
