Homeless Man Walks Too Close to La Grange Road; Car Mirror Hits Hand

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange police blotter.

A 58-year-old homeless man was taken by ambulance to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital at about 2:28 a.m. Feb. 27 after his hand was hit by the passenger-side mirror of a vehicle that stuck him as he was walking too close to on La Grange Road near Elm.

He had been walking north on the west side of the street, but said he was too close to the road. The vehicle that brushed him was a silver sport-utility vehicle, he told police after walking to outside the library at Cossitt Avenue and calling 9-1-1.

Identity Stolen

A La Grange woman told police Feb. 29 that someone had stolen her identity and opened bank and Dish Network accounts in her name. Further information was not available March 1 from La Grange police.

Medications Stolen

A resident of Windsor Place, 42 S. Ashland Ave., told La Grange police Feb. 27 that she thinks someone has been entering her apartment through an unlocked door while she showers and has been taking her medications. She said 14 Vicodin pills were stolen the first time and additional drugs subsequently. Her doctor will issue more medications and police told her to lock her door.

Park Sign Knocked Down

A brown wooden “Gordon Park” sign near the tennis courts was found knocked down at about 8:35 a.m. Feb. 28. The park district was notified.

Man Followed

A Berwyn man reported being followed by a red Pontiac Grand Am on the 0-100 block north of Brainard Avenue at about 8:33 p.m. Feb. 28. Police could not find the vehicle.

Bike Stolen

A locked, green Huffy Giant bicycle was reported Feb. 28 as having been stolen two weeks earlier near the La Grange Road train depot, 25 W. Burlington Ave.  

Car Hit in Parking Garage

Someone who hit another vehicle Feb. 24 in the village parking garage, 80 S. Sixth Ave., left a message Feb. 27 with La Grange police, who are talking to both vehicle owners.

Driver Doesn’t See Second Car

A 55-year-old La Grange Park man was ticketed at about 5 p.m. Feb. 28 after he told La Grange police he was going north on Ashland, halted at the stop sign and did not see another vehicle that had been going west on Ogden Avenue and with which he collided. The driver was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device after telling police he did not see a sign that said “Right Turn Only.”

Woman’s Car Hits Street Sign

An 81-year-old Chicago woman told La Grange police she thought traffic was clear enough when she tried to cross east across La Grange Road at Maple Avenue at about 8:33 a.m. Feb. 21 before her vehicle was struck by a northbound car, went up the curb and hit a street sign on the southeast corner of the intersection. Anna M. Gudziunas was ticketed for failure to yield at an intersection and damage to village property.
