Former LT Employee Sentenced in Child Porn Case

The La Grange Park man had roughly 70,000 pornographic images of children on his personal computer and external hard drive, according to federal attorneys.

A former Lyons Township High School employee was sentenced Friday to 12 years and seven months in prison after pleading guilty last August to child pornography charges.

Nathan Arger, 34, of the 500 block of Spring Avenue in La Grange Park, was arrested in September 2011 after police found about 160 gigabytes of child pornography—which amounts to about 70,000 images and videos—on his home computer and an external hard-drive.

An undercover FBI agent discovered that Arger was distributing the images on a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office release. Arger himself was visible in a non-pornographic video involving a girl.

“(Arger) cataloged and stored a staggering number of images and videos of child pornography, the majority of which involved prepubescent children and some of which were clearly sadistic or masochistic in nature,” the government wrote in a sentencing memo.

Arger worked part time at the LTHS TV and radio stations at the time of his arrest. There is no evidence he had any illegal contact with students. He was put on immediate unpaid leave after his arrest. Arger passed a background check before he was hired, school officials said.

Arger must serve a minimum of 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release. Following his prison sentence, he must serve an additional five years of supervised release.
