Blotter: Driver in Separate Accidents on La Grange Road at 31st, Ogden

The following items are from Patch's reporting on the La Grange Park police blotter.

A 50-year-old Countryside woman received seven tickets after La Grange Park police said she fled an accident on LaGrange Road at 31st Street April 7 and continued  south, where her car hit another vehicle at Ogden Avenue.

Demetrice P. Gladney, of 5811 Rose Ave., was arrested for possession of cannabis and ticketed by La Grange Park police for failure to reduce her speed to avoid an accident; failure to give aid or information at an accident; leaving the scene of an accident; driving under the influence; and no proof of insurance. La Grange police ticketed her for failure to reduce her speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle after they said her gray Toyota Camry hit a Nissan Versa owned by a Mount Prospect resident.

La Grange Park police received a report at 10:40 p.m. of an accident at 31st Street and La Grange Road in which the offending vehicle, a Toyota, left the scene and was going south in La Grange Road. On the 1000 block, an officer said he saw a vehicle matching that description going south at a high speed  and maneuvering around other vehicles.

The officer caught up with the vehicle at Pine and used the squad car’s air horn to signal the Toyota to pull over. The Toyota did not stop until Ogden Avenue, where vehicles were stopped in the center and curb lanes at a traffic signal. The Toyota slowed to a near stop and suddenly changed lanes and inched forward toward a vehicle in the right lane, police said. It then struck a vehicle in the intersection, they added.

When being questioned, Gladney had a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and glassy eyes, police said. When she exited the car, she dropped items from her purse, picked them up and also tried to take a lane reflector embedded in the pavement, police said.

The front-end damage and a missing Toyota emblem reported on the car in the accident at 31st Street matched the condition of her car, police said.

Gladney failed three field sobriety tests and twice gave insufficient samples for the Breathalyzer test, police said.  The driver was brought to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, where she was uncooperative before being handcuffed, police said. When she apologized, she was released from the cuffs and given blood and urine tests for the presence of alcohol.

Brought to the police station, she was searched and police said they found a bag containing a green leafy substance in her clothes. The substance tested positive as cannabis and weighed 9.75 grams, police said.
