Driver Hits Tire in the Road; Says It Was Hard to Avoid

La Grange and La Grange Park police issue tickets to numerous drivers.

A 62-year-old Western Springs man told La Grange police he was driving east on Ogden Avenue about 50 feet west of Stone Avenue at about 6:23 a.m. June 1 when his 1999 Acura struck a tire lying in the road. He said he did not see the tire come off another vehicle and could not avoid hitting it.

Hit-and-run reported in school lot

La Grange police received a delayed, walk-in report at about 4:19 p.m. June 3 of a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of Park Junior High, 325 S. Park Rd. No other information was available.

Three receive tickets

A Hinsdale man received two traffic tickets at about 6:18 p.m. June 1 after his 2001 Mercedes collided with a 2004 Toyota Sienna at 47th Street and LaGrange Road. Patrick M. Mahoney, 59, was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device and driving with a suspended or revoked license. The other driver, a 42-year-old La Grange woman, told police she was turning from northbound LaGrange Road onto westbound 47th Street with a left-turn arrow when the other driver’s eastbound vehicle went through a red light.

La Grange Park police stopped a 36-year-old Cicero woman after observing her 1999 Mitsubishi Galant had only one headlight while she was driving southbound in the 1100 block of north LaGrange Road at about  11:37 p.m. June 1. Elsa V. Cortez was ticketed for not having a valid U.S. driver’s license and driving a car with one headlight. She has a driver’s license from Mexico. 

A 25-year-old Chicago man received four traffic tickets from La Grange police at LaGrange Road and Calendar Avenue at about 12:48 p.m. June 4. Carlos A. Contreras was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions, having alcohol concentration in his blood or breath of more than the .08 legal limit, having no seat belts in vehicle and driving while his license is suspended or revoked.

Driver stops in time, but is rear-ended

A Chicago man told La Grange police he was able to stop his 2007 Chevy Equinox in time to avoid hitting the rear of a line of vehicles that stopped abruptly on Ogden Avenue at East Avenue at about 12:10 p.m. June 2. But the man said the 1994 Ford Thunderbird behind him struck the rear of his car. The driver, a 67-year-old Cicero woman, told police she could not stop in time, but was not ticketed.
